FLAMINGO

KINEMETIC SCULPTURE PROJECT

The purpose of this independent project is to design and build a series of mechanisms that would translate to non-linear kinetic movements. I took inspirations from a video of a flock of flamingos moving along a river. The animals’ biaxial head movement and rotational leg movements were represented through various different combinations of gears, all powered through one singular hand-crank located on the side of the mechanic sculpture. Materials used to construct this model include laser cut then hand adjusted acrylic, 3d-printed gears, wood, and aluminum tubing. The humorous nature of this model can be developed into kinetic demonstration tool, children’s toy, or simply a sculptural celebration.
